The doctor has proposed a treatment plan that has you concerned. It may be the cost of the plan or it may be the amount of time you’re worried about being away from work treating under the plan. What can you do? First, don’t hesitate to talk candidly to your doctor about those issues. Explain that you’d like to find ways to reduce the expense of care, if that’s possible, or reduce the amount of time away from work. It may also be that the doctor would be willing to accept what’s called a letter of protection, which is an agreement we negotiate with the doctor where the doctor agrees to wait until the end of your case to receive payment and that payment then coming from your settlement.
